Anti-Ageing

Invest in your future. How to slow down our biological clock for a longer life of better quality health and activity

  • "Ageing is, clearly and simply, the accumulation of damage within the body. That's all that ageing is."
    – Aubrey de Grey
Author and theoretician in the field of Gerontology, and the Chief Science Officer of the SENS Research Foundation
  • "There's nothing wrong with making the best of one's declining years, but what does annoy me is the fatalism. Now that we're seriously in range of finding therapies that work against ageing, this apathy, of course, becomes a serious part of the problem."
    – Aubrey de Grey
Author and theoretician in the field of Gerontology, and the Chief Science Officer of the SENS Research Foundation
  • "We know that so many of the conditions and diseases that we associate with ageing can be prevented or in fact their onset delayed if we just took preventative steps earlier in our lives."
    – Julie Bishop
    Australian Government Minister
  • "The idea that ageing was subject to control was completely unexpected."
    – Cynthia Kenyon
    American molecular biologist and biogerontologist

Testimonials of people who practise anti-ageing

"With HGH my depression lifted and my libido returned. Daily walks became runs and I've lost 3 dress sizes."

L.R. USA

"Better sleep, awakening refreshed. Super energy levels. Hormonal balance is better without night sweats and improved mood. It feels like my body's clock is turning backwards."

M.L., USA

Researchers studied the normal levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) patterns in adults. At age 21, the normal level of HGH is approximately 10 mg/dl of blood. After the age of 30, the secretion rate drops by 14% every 10 years. By the age of forty nearly everyone is deficient in HGH. By the age of 61, HGH is diminished by

Scientists discovered that there are direct correlations between decreased levels of HGH as we age and the undesirable effects of ageing. The decreased level of HGH is the primary reason for slow and incomplete healing in ageing individuals.

If you are interested in anti-ageing therapy to naturally reduce the ageing process, there are various products that may be just what you are looking for, although I have my own personal favourites. Of course the products themselves have no direct effect on the improvements suggested as they can only help your body reset its HGH production and release. The desired results ONLY arise if your body is capable of responding by increasing HGH production and release. As far as I am aware there are no FDA approved trials or data to confirm that any of the products aimed at increasing HGH levels actually do that. Many people, including Doctors, who use these products have however found health benefits that are consistent with increased HGH production and release.

HGH (Human Growth Hormone) ....

... is the most abundant hormone produced by one of the endocrine glands: the pituitary gland. This gland is located in the centre of the brain. HGH is a very complex hormone. It is made up of 191 amino acids - making it fairly large for a hormone. In fact, it is the largest protein created by the pituitary gland.

HGH secretion reaches its peak in the body during adolescence. This makes sense because this is the period of peak growth and maturation into adulthood. But, HGH secretion does not stop after adolescence. Our body continues to produce HGH usually in short bursts during deep sleep. As we get older our body produces less HGH. Modern anti-ageing therapy products are designed to help your body slow down any decrease and naturally increase it's own levels of HGH. Increased levels of HGH can assist in weight loss and muscle gain. HGH can also increase your energy level and may assist sexual performance and endurance.

HGH is known to be critical for cell regeneration in the bones, muscles and vital organs, lean muscle growth, brain function, physical and mental health, bone strength, energy and metabolism, and supports the immune system in combating infection and disease. It is logical to deduce that HGH levels are of paramount importance to the production, release and activity of our adult stem cells. In short HGH is very important to just about every aspect of your life!

Treatment Options

At first HGH was derived only by extraction from human pituitary glands of deceased donors! As you might imagine, this made HGH a rather unattractive option, incredibly rare and supremely expensive. The first true synthetic human growth hormone (called Somatotropin) was first produced in 1986 by the Eli Lily Corporation.

In 1990 a ground-breaking (and oft-cited) study was published by Dr Rudman in the New England Journal of Medicine. Using a controlled double-blind six month study, Dr. Rudman discovered that, between two groups of men with identical diets and exercise program, the study group given injectable HGH had an 8.8% increase in lean muscle mass, and a 14.4% decrease in body fat over the control group. The test group also reported improvements in sleep, energy levels, and skin and muscle tone. Originally, HGH supplementation was administered as a medicine by injection only - that was the only way known to get HGH back into the bloodstream but it is painful and there are risks of side-effects from over-dosing. True synthetic injectable hormone remains available today by prescription, but its price ($1000-1500 per daily injection) puts it well outside the reach of most people.

Attempts to produce an oral form of Somatotropin did not work; it was incredibly costly to produce, the liver broke down Somatotropin absorbed in the stomach, and the HGH molecule was too large to be absorbed through the lining of the mouth.

Modern HGH stimulators (sometimes called secretogogues) naturally trigger the body’s production and release of its own HGH. There are no adverse side-effects due to the HGH being produced by the body itself within its own biochemical and physiological environment. The most beneficial time to stimulate HGH is last thing before sleep (when most healing occurs naturally) and before a workout to enhance the benefits of the exercise. An oral sub-lingual spray maximises its absorption and effectiveness. This is my personal favourite and having used it for 12 years I know it works!

There are many different anti-oxidants available. When they were first discovered people thought they would fight free-radicals and prevent deterioration for ever-lasting life!!! It hasn't proven to be that simple for a number of reasons.

Some free radicals are actually signalling molecules so it's not advantageous to blanket neutralise them. Free radicals are primarily produced in the mitochondria but elsewhere too as a result of metabolism so can only be neutralised by anti-oxidants that can reach those areas. Certain free radicals have been developed that have this ability eg MitoQ - a 3rd generation CoQ10 that is 847 times more powerful. See the MitoQ product page for full details.

Hydrogen Therapy has had extensive research to show benefits in slowing nerve degeneration for Alzheimers, Parkinsons and other diseases. With hydrogen being the smallest element in the Periodic Table it can go wherever it is required and crosses the Blood Brain Barrier where so many larger molecules can't. Active H2 is a simple way of achieving these benefits on a daily basis to help prevent degeneration before it occurs.

Many anti-oxidants are restricted by our ability to take them orally as the stomach digestion will damage many. Healthier foods contain higher levels of anti-oxidants and Resveratrol gives red wine benefits. New ways of delivering these molecules have been developed such as liposomal products that enable enhanced absorption through the mouth mucosa.

The problem with supplementing additional anti-oxidants is that they tend to down-regulate the body's own production. My favourite is therefore Protandim - a proprietary blend of products that together activate the Nrf2 gene to up-regulate the body's own natural production of Glutathione (aka Super-oxide Dismutase) which is the body's most powerful anti-oxidant that it produces.
